Medical in Korea for Foreigners: Hospital Matching

Seoul National University Hospital, finding hospitals in Korea for international patients

Korea is a top destination for oncology, orthopedics, check-ups, and second opinions, but the system is built for Korean speakers and local referral paths. If you are abroad and need a hospital you can trust, the first step is not booking a flight. It is building a shortlist of hospitals that actually treat foreign patients, in the specialty you need, on dates that work. This guide explains how Medical in Korea coordination through HezoKorea fits into that process.

Why foreigners choose Korea for treatment

Major Seoul hospitals invest in advanced imaging, surgical teams, and foreign-patient desks. Costs for many procedures are competitive compared with the US or Western Europe, and wait times for elective consults can be shorter when you plan ahead.

That does not mean every clinic is right for every case. A pretty website or an influencer post is not a medical referral. Hospital matching exists so you compare real options, specialty, language support, estimate range, and inpatient vs outpatient capacity, before you buy a ticket.

How hospital matching works

Matching (hospital matching) shortlists MOHW-registered hospitals by diagnosis category, city, budget band, and care setting, then narrows to 2–3 options with fee estimates and checks for foreign-patient desk, interpreter availability, and typical wait times.

Many patients start matching once records are organized. Others already have one hospital name and only need matching to compare alternatives.
